Oruro, Potoí: 21.08. – 03.09.2010 Actually was our extended visit in the garage exactly at the right time, we could not have continued anyway. During that time there were strikes in the poorest region of Bolivia, in the mining center of Potosí. Already since a week thousands of miners and farmers have been on strike for an economical development of their department, for a construction of a cement factory as well as for a new airport. As well as the government had to solve an old border dispute between the neighboring department of Oruro, about areas ‘full’ of gold, uranium, copper and lithium.

La Paz: 04. – 20.08.2010 After over a month nature pure we at last headed for a big town again. But not just one, nope, it is the highest one; La Paz, the administrative capital of Bolivia is because of location the most important town of the country but not it capital (that is Sucre). It is situated in a valley and stretches from 3’100 up till 4’100 Meters above sea level. Anxious to see this contrast full town where skyscrapers are just next to adobe houses, where Indigenous, Cholos, Chriollos, and some other Europeans life peaceful side by side and last but not least of course because of its colorful markets.

Santa Cruz, Beni: 20.07. – 03.08.2010 As we passed the border to Bolivia we instantly felt a hundred years set back in time. The roads felt like Swiss cheese, did it look like that in Europe as well back then? Oh well eyes shut and thru, it’ only for about 500 kilometers. So we went with a breathtaking maximum speed of about 30km/h trying to avoid potholes and stones thru the low land of Bolivia.
