Arica: 04. - 10.09.2010 One more time it meant ‘Bienvenidos a Chile’. But this time it should be also the last time for us that we visit this diverse country. There is nothing much spectacular to report. Nevertheless the pictures speak for themselves.
Before we could start our Chilean farewell tour we once more had to fill
our fridge again, since it was ready and empty for the border
checkpoint (remember no milk, meat and fruit). Therefore it went from
the border at about 4’000 Meters right to sea level in 183 kilometers.
Before we really arrived in Iquique we had our cinema tickets in our
pockets and a Big Mac in our hands. It just had to be after about ¾
years. Because of our altitude acclimatization that we plan on using
again, we didn’t want to spend too much time at sea level and so after
two days we went up to the mountains again.
For our last drive in Chile the country gave it all. Colorful mountains,
snowcapped volcanoes, clear mountain lakes, hot springs and salt lakes
spiced up with Viscachas and Vicuñas that stud ready to wave goodbye. A
nicer farewell one could not wish for.
In Arica, the border town to Peru, arrived, we bought some Gouda cheese
with our last Chilean money and the next morning it already meant; off
into a new country.
Till soon.
